Choose the right format

Smaller files, appropriate formats.

JPG

Photos and broad compatibility

Use JPG for photographs and complex color gradients. Quality 82 is a strong balance between detail and file size.

PNG

Graphics and transparency

Use PNG for logos, interface graphics, screenshots, and transparent pixels. Balanced compression reduces colors when needed; enable Lossless PNG to preserve every decoded pixel.

WebP

Modern web delivery

Use WebP for smaller website images. Choose lossy mode for maximum savings or lossless mode for pixel-identical output.

Image compression FAQ

Useful details before you compress.

Does compression reduce image quality?

Lossless PNG and lossless WebP preserve decoded pixels. Balanced PNG uses color reduction, while JPG and standard WebP discard some detail to produce smaller files. The Balanced preset is designed to keep those changes difficult to notice.

Can converting JPG to PNG restore quality?

No. Converting to PNG cannot recover detail already removed by JPEG compression, and the PNG result may be larger.

What metadata is removed?

By default, the optimizer strips EXIF, GPS, camera, and editing metadata. Enable Preserve metadata only when those details are needed.

Are my images stored?

No permanent image library is created. Inputs and outputs are kept in a unique temporary directory and deleted after the response finishes or disconnects.
